Trainee Actuary — Work Placement

Reassure Insurance

Spent a week embedded within a professional actuarial team at one of the UK’s largest insurance firms, attending internal strategy meetings and observing first-hand how data drives commercial decisions. Worked directly with the company’s insurance pricing calculator — examined the underlying code and data tables used to build risk models and generate customer quotes. Developed spreadsheets and customer query frameworks; gained concrete understanding of how data and AI tools are reshaping the insurance industry. This placement confirmed my interest in finance and technology, shaping my decision to focus on statistics and quantitative methods.
